Payne Education Center, an Oklahoma City-based nonprofit teacher training and dyslexia advocacy center, announced today that it is hosting a Reading Instruction Matters symposium at TBS Factoring Service in Oklahoma City on April 27th from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The cost to attend the event is $100 and qualified educators and professionals are eligible to receive 5.5 continuing education credits.
This symposium is appropriate for parents, educators, diagnostic professionals, and others interested in learning more about dyslexia and effective reading instruction. Presentation subjects are Dyslexia Basics; Effective Instruction; Classroom Accommodations; and Poverty, Brain Development, and Reading. Presenters at the symposium are respected leaders in their fields and offer expertise from the varying perspectives of grassroots advocacy, special education, higher education, and scientific research as it relates to reading instruction.
Heather Johnson, Executive Director of Payne Education Center, expressed her excitement for the event, saying, “I am thrilled that Payne Education Center, whose goal is that ‘No Child Should Struggle to Read,’ can offer this truly collaborative event to share facts about dyslexia and best practices to serve students with dyslexia and other reading challenges. For too long, struggling readers have fallen through the cracks and we hope this event can help parents, educators, and other professionals better serve their needs across the state. We are thankful for the educators who have volunteered their time for the event and to TBS Factoring Service for graciously offering us their event space for the symposium. This is a great example of education and community stakeholders coming together to improve the lives of the 15-20% of the population who has the language-based learning disability of dyslexia.”
